Abstract The Village of Berea was incorporated as a 6th class city on May 9, 1890, at a meeting held in the office of the treasurer of Berea College, P.D. Dodge. The location suggests that the College community initiated the creation of a formal government structure for the town. Abstract

The 1986 Master Plan was the result of a planning effort approved at the Spring 1986 meeting of the Berea College Board of Trustees. The intended outputs of the planning efforts and new master plan for Berea College were to: (1) plan for the use of outlying college property; (2) describe a development plan for the Boone Tavern area; and (3) outline the desired image recommended for Berea College.
