Biographical / Historical
Charles Edward Wyatt (Charlie), was born 9th June 1910, in Disputana area, Kentucky, just outside of Berea in Rockcastle County. He attended Berea Foundation School, and had early memories roller skating on the towns early sidewalks. His family was befriended by Elenor Frost, and allowed to rent a house on Walnut Meadow Road, just north of the College Square.
As a young man, he held several construction jobs in Berea and Cincinnati. He worked for Western Union, Chicago, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in California, and served in Australia and China in the Army Signal Corps. He was promoted to 2nd Lt. after completing Officer’s Training school.
Upon returning to Berea, he started the Wyatt Supply Company, a masonary building supply company manufacturing concrete blocks and ready-mix concrete. In 1960, he started the Bel Arena Skating Rink. He was also on the Board of the first Berea municipal swimming pool. Charlie passed away 24th September 2011
