Louis Smith Papers

Abstract Louis Smith came to Berea as an instructor in 1927 and served as the college's Dean of the Upper Division before serving as Dean of the College from 1947 to 1969. Scenario Planning Taskforce: Academic Restructuring

The Scenario Planning Taskforce (SPT) was created in response to the 2008 market performance that significantly impacted Berea College's endowment. The taskforce was charged with developing two to four scenarios of academic restructuring that would honor Berea's core mission including no undergraduate tution while fitting within a reduced budget for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Special Learning Opportunities Committee

Abstract

Established in 1989, the Special Learning Opportunities Committee was established to deal with learning opportunities outside established programs and courses regularly offered during Fall and Spring academic terms. Within its purview were Short Term courses, Independent Majors, Independent Studies, and Field Study projects. The Committee also reviewed policies and practices for the programs, proposing modifications to the Academic Program Council.
