Abstract
Established in 1989, the Special Learning Opportunities Committee was established to deal with learning opportunities outside established programs and courses regularly offered during Fall and Spring academic terms. Within its purview were Short Term courses, Independent Majors, Independent Studies, and Field Study projects. Isabelle Sprague-Smith was a painter, art activist, and art educator including art instructor and principal at the Veltin School for Girls in New York City from 1900-25. Sprague-Smith was also Director of the MacDowell Association in Peterborough, New Hampshire, and founder of the Bach Festival in Winter Park, Florida. Steve Ledford started playing fiddle at age seven and performed extensively in his home community with his father and sisters. In 1929 as part of the Carolina Ramblers String Band, he played on radio in New York City where the group also made 20 recordings for the American Record Company.
