Abstract

In 1976 Berea College underwent an institutional self-evaluation with regard to sex discrimination as required by regulations under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. A committee of twenty-two staff and faculty members were charged with the review. This small collection contains materials and documents created as a result of this review.

James McBride Dabbs Audio Reference Collection

Abstract

James McBride Dabbs was a well-known author and prominent southern liberal during the age of segregation. He was a South Carolina plantation owner, Presbyterian Church elder, and author of The Southern Heritage and Who Speaks for the South. He also served as president of the Southern Regional Council and was a member of the Committee of Southern Churchmen and the Southern Student Organizing Committee.

Abstract Raine was born (1869) in Scotland and immigrated to the United States with his family when he was 12 years old.  The family lived in West Virginia and, later, in Arkansas.
