On Thursday, March 25, 1965, fifty-eight Berea College student, faculty and staff joined 25,000 other demonstrators in the last phase of the March on Montgomery from Selma, Alabama. Appointed in November 1989, the Committee on the Freshman Year was tasked with reviewing Berea's current student orientation programming and the planning of an improved orientation experience that would extend throughout the freshman year.
