Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised of the official records of the Berea College affiliated Foundation School and include historical information about the foundation and activities of the school, accredidation certificates and evaluations, ledgers, student rolls and lists, programing records, correspondence, faculty meeting minutes and notes, faculty papers, committee minutes and notes, annual reports, course catalogs, calendars, notes and papers on sports teams and events, and other records documenting the establishment and activities of students and staff of the school such as the publications "The Lion" and "Knapp Hall News."

Starting with the 1924 school year, a ninth grade was added to the school and was renamed the Foundation and Junor High School.

In 1910, the Foundation School is instituted as an affiliated school of Berea College for elementary students over fifteen years of age; children under fifteen constituted the Training School. Starting with the 1924 school year, a ninth grade was added to the school and was renamed the Foundation and Junor High School. In 1967, the Foundation School and Knapp Hall—the College elementary school—are closed.
