Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure

Abstract

The Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure, working with the Berea College Chapter of the American Association of University Professors, first formulated a statement on academic freedom and tenure for the College in 1965.  In April 1968, the Recommended Statement on Academic Freedom was approved by the College Faculty and adopted by the Board of Trustees. The committee continued to make recommendations on overall policy to be referred to the College Faculty for action.

Committee on Professional Growth

Committee on the Freshman Year

Abstract

Appointed in November 1989, the Committee on the Freshman Year was tasked with reviewing Berea's current student orientation programming and the planning of an improved orientation experience that would extend throughout the freshman year. The original committee was chaired by Gail Wolford. Members included John Bolin, Connie Woods, Ron Shaheed, Katrina Shaner, and Barbara Wade.

The Committee to Study Future Service Functions of Berea College was created to conduct a study on the College's future development at the request of the Board of Trustees. The study was designed to help develop an adequate body of information and valid assumptions about the College, the region, and other areas to guide the college toward the future. Community Development Training Program for Vietnam and Tibet

County Achievement Contest Records

Abstract

Promoted by the Berea College Extenstion Department, the County Achievement Contest for Eastern Kentucky was a county-wide contest with the aim of organizing and coordinating the work of counties for greater progress and effieciency. The contest ran from August 1, 1922 through December of 1923 and was developed and organized by Marshall E. Vaughn, Superintendent of Extension at Berea College. Counties participating in the contest include: Breathitt, Owsley, Rockcastle and Jackson.
