Scope and Contents
The records of the Alpha Zeta Literary Society include society secretary, treasurer, and board of director’s books; correspondence; society publications; programs; and Alpha Zeta’s constitution and song.
Included in the collection are the following publications:
The Still (1904) is Alpha Zeta’s celebration of its first decade. Focusing on AZ”s history, it also emphasizes its achievements in debates, athletics, and alumni endeavors. Includes pictures, one proclaiming the “death of Phi Delta on Field Day” in a field in front of Ladies’ Hall (now Fairchild).
The Torch (1919) focuses on America’s and Alpha Zeta’s involvement in World War I, dedicating the publication “To those from her ranks who gave their lives in the late war a sacrifice to Liberty.” The Honor Roll consists entirely of alumni who served in the war, with pages 17-18 recognizing AZ alumni who lost their lives, including Cleveland Cady Frost and Sidney Ruffian Rust. As in The Still, The Torch describes Alpha Zeta’s achievements in debates and athletics.
