This series consists of recorded interviews and selected speeches. Interviews were recorded by Berea professor Emily Ann Smith (English Department, 1944 – 1971) and other researchers. Berea College president Willis D. Weatherford, Jr. initiated the Smith interviews in order to amplify the record of Hutchins's administration. The general topics of the interviews are the Hutchins family and its ties to Berea; Francis Hutchins's years as an administrator and teacher with Yale-in-China; and Berea College.
