Photograph of an 1819 portrait of Daniel Boone. The image bears this inscription: "Colonel Daniel Boone As Chester Harding saw him in 1819 when he painted the first and only personal picture ever painted of him. Now owned by Mrs Wm Harding King. Others are copies. Observe the tiny cracks in the oli cloth from age. R. N. Mayfield 1-27-1934." Item formerly associated with Log 9216.

Abstract
Shaped by Native American paths and old buffalo traces, the Wilderness Road was forged in 1775 by Daniel Boone for the Transylvania Company. The trail, and later the road, winded through the Cumberland Gap–a notch in the Appalachian Mountains located near the intersection of Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee–through the interior of Kentucky and to the Ohio River.
