Abstract
Richard D. Sears was Professor of English and Theatre, 1967-2010, and the Chester D. Tripp Chair in Humanities at Berea College. He has published numerous books and articles on various aspects of Kentucky history including the abolitionist movement, Camp Nelson, and Madison County. In particular, Sears devoted many years to researching and writing about the origins of Berea College and it founding members and families.

Roy N. Walters papers

Abstract
Born in West Virginia, Roy N. Walters graduated from Berea College with a BA in Sociology in 1927 and began teaching printing classes for the Foundation School. He would quickly become a full-time teacher for the school and its Dean in1943. Walters served as Dean of the Foundation School until his retirement in 1968. Until 1958, Walters also served as the Dean of Men.

Rural Institutes of India - Education and Training Project

In conjunction with the Ministry of Education of the Government of India and the National Council of Rural Higher Education (U.S.), Berea College provided technical assistance, training, and educational programming to the Rural Higher Institutes in India during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Rural School Improvement Project (RSIP)

Abstract
The Rural School Improvement Project (RSIP), implemented by Berea College, began its planning in the spring of 1952. Financed by a grant from the Fund for the Advancement of Education, the project officially began in 1953. The project was based on two principles: (1) good schools make for good communities and (2) good teachers are indispensable for good schools. The Scenario Planning Taskforce (SPT) was created in response to the 2008 market performance that significantly impacted Berea College's endowment. The taskforce was charged with developing two to four scenarios of academic restructuring that would honor Berea's core mission including no undergraduate tution while fitting within a reduced budget for the 2011-2012 academic year.
