Abstract Berea students, faculty, and staff, along with many others, had previously participated in a 1964 march on the state capitol in Frankfort to lobby the Kentucky legislature to pass civil rights legislation. On March 7,1965, a small group of Bereans took part in a King-led march that had to turn back before arriving at Montgomery—during which a white minister from Boston was killed.
