Abstract Kazee was born August 29, 1900 in the quite rural Burton Fork area of Magoffin County, Kentucky. Baptist Christianity, home made music, and classical commercial recordings were important influences in Kazee’s upbringing. He was singing and playing banjo by age 5 and was ordained to preach at age 17. The collection contains photographs and microfilmed records documenting the founding and operation of the Oneida Baptist Institute for the period 1906-1983. The collection also includes records from the Magoffin Baptist Institute in Magoffin County, Kentucky, which was absorbed by Oneida in 1963.

This bound volume of typescript notes gleaned from published sources was compiled by Faybert Martin (and Hampton King?) during the 1930s. The title on the book spine is "The Baptist Church and the Negro." Also based on spine imprinting, this work is associated with the YMCA Graduate School in Nashville, Tennessee. Inside the front cover is a manuscript note "From Dr. W. D. Weatherford's library." The volume compiles references to African American Baptists during the period 1790 - 1854.
