Abstract
Born in 1884 in South Dakota, Edwin Michael Hoffman, known as Michael, graduated from Oberlin College in 1907 with a B.A. Following graduation, he worked for the YMCA and, in 1914, married Mary Lindsay (Oberlin, 1910). During WWI, he served on a mission to Manchuria as a YMCA officer attached to US forces.
