This collections brings together a variety of material from the Berea College Archives that help document the history of the Middletown School in Berea, Kentucky. Included are several oral history interviews and gatherings of Middle town alumni discussing their school time memories. Also included are recorings of the event marking the completion of the building’s renovation and rededication in 2007.

Abstract This small study collection contains information about a 1959-1965 American Friends Service Committee program that helped African American students from Prince Edward County, Virginia, continue their education while their local public schools were shut down. The closure of all public schools in Prince Edward County was an attempt to avoid school desegregation as required by the 1954 United States Supreme Court decision Brown v. Board of Education.
