The collection of second through eighteenth century manuscripts gathers Hutchins Library's oldest hand-written resources into a study collection. Document formats include a papyrus fragment, two codices, a Torah scroll, book leaves, letters and legal documents. Some items are boxed; others are shelved in the Special Collections. This material may be of special interest to persons studying languages, paleography, calligraphy, book arts, book history, religion and world history.
Codex: two quires of sermon outlines, possibly 1200s - 1300s
Partial codex on vellum. Possibly Italian. Possibly 13th century (or 14th century?). Noted on the envelope: "Sermons, perhaps related to dedication of the Church of St. Michael." (Writing may be that of Dr. Christensen.) Texts and dates to be confirmed through future study.
