Selden Cary family papers
Scope and Contents
This small collection comprises two items. The first is a wallet-style leather notebook containing work records and loose promissory notes. The second is a rectangular financial ledger with the name Mary G. Graves written on the cover. Two typed note cards accompany the notebooks. Both cards state: "This notebook was given to the Library in 1918(?) by Selden Cary. It belonged to his ancestors."

Biographical Note
Selden Mudge Carey was born in Oleon, New York, in 1897, to Asariah Riley Cary and Julia Fidela Punches Cary. He lived in Campton and Barbourville, Kentucky before attending Berea College. After graduating with an A.B. degree in 1921, Carey worked as an artist and teacher in Pennsylvania. He died in Philadelphia on July 1, 1987.

Abstract
The financial records in this 2-folder collection were created in the early 1800s. They are attributed to the ancestors of the donor, Selden M. Cary. Additional study is needed to ascertain the locality or localities where the records originiated.
