Biographical Note
Professional photographer, social worker and educator Daniel J. Ransohoff was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1921. A graduate of Walnut Hills High School, he earned degrees from Bard College, Columbia University and Union Graduate School. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Ransohoff returned to his home town where he worked for the United Way and Community Chest and was an associate professor of community planning in the Department of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning at the University of Cincinnati. Ransohoff's photographs have been featured in many museum exhibitions and also in his books Pictures Tell the Story (1959), How Cincinnati Helps (1961) and There Is in Every Human Countenance, Either a History or a Prophecy (1988). He was the producer of the WCET public television show Think Cincinnati and a well-respected local tour guide. Ransohoff died in Cincinnati in 1993 at the age of 71.
