Scope and Contents

This collection is comprised of miscellaneous correspondence, reports, clippings, minutes, and publications relating to this organization.

Materials consist of subject files and printed materials, of which approximately half are bulletins, newsletters, memoranda, and other publications from state and national units of the League. The remainder reflects various activities of the Berea League including voter registration efforts from the late 1950s; the League's study of the Berea Independent School District (1962); studies of water usage (1950s), solid waste disposal, land conservation, and finance of local government. Such programs and activities are documented in subject files that include correspondence, budgets, committee records and reports, candidate profile sheets, clippings, and printed documents used in preparation of reports or papers. Correspondence of Berea officers with state and national officers relating to programs, meetings, and membership drives, is also present.

Abstract

The Berea League was established in 1938 and is affiliated with the League of Women Voters of Kentucky and the National League of Women Voters. Its general purpose is to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation of citizens in government.
