Roger Howell Memory Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of thirteen compact discs and over 350 tunes documenting the performance style of fiddler Roger Howell. The tunes were recorded in 2007. Howell provides narratives about where and from whom he learned the tunes, the keys in which he learned them, and the dates of the recordings.

Abstract
Roger Howell has been immersed in traditional mountain music since childhood. As a teenager, Howell began playing fiddle and soon became a respected musician in the Madison County, North Carolina area. Howell has performed at various festivals and has won multiple contests at regional conventions. In addition to his performance skills, Howell is a respected teacher, author, and instrument technician. Howell learned fiddle tunes from some of the region's best fiddlers including Fletcher Bright, Charlie Acuff, Will Keys, Mack Snodderly, among many others.
