Abstract

The High School-College Cooperative Learning Program started in the fall of 1983 at Berea College with the support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The program continued with funding from both the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Berea College Board of Trustees through the spring of 1993. The program involved outreach to ten public schools in ten cooperating districts and generated a number of programs and activities concentrating on the primary goal of recognizing and nurturing excellence while creating a community of educators among high school and college teachers. Counties joining with Berea in this cooperative effort included Clay, Estill, Garrard, Harlan, Jackson, Laurel, Lee, Madison, Powell, and Rockcastle. Jackie Betts, of Berea College, served as the Program Coordinator.

Arrangement is in series as follows:

Series 1: Annual Reports - Detailed reports including program description, program director report, agendas, workshop handouts, published articles and materials, brochures and other programming materials. This series also contains an Executive Summary Report written by Jackie Betts, Program Director (1983-1993).

Series 2: Workshop and Programming Materials - Workshop booklets and agendas, including handouts, for specific workshops and seminars sponsored by the program.

Series 3: Photographs - Photographs of programs, events, and partipants of the High School-College Cooperative Learning Program. Most photographs are not dated.
