Selected Photographs, 1925 - 1984
Scope and Contents
Series 1: General, c. 1950-1984 This series consists of 349 images that document Henderson Settlement activities, personnel, campus, and environs. Although a few images pre-date 1950, most are from the period 1950 through the mid 80s.
Series 2: John Ellington Collection, c. 1925-xxxx This series consists of 419 images that document Henderson Settlement's earliest years. Included are views of landscape, local residents, community events (funerals, baptisms, graduations, etc.), campus buildings, students, staff, various occupations, and modes of transportation. Of particular note are photographs of the “Sunshine Bonnet Girls,” a school sponsored group of student singers that toured the United States in support of the Settlement and its mission. Some of the views of local residents appear to have been posed for promotional reasons.
