Operational and Vital Records, 1925-76
Scope and Contents
This series consists of Henderson Settlement's non-current operational and vital records collected in 1983. Most of the documentation deals with the mission’s goals and policies, physical plant, finances, and social service efforts within the community from the period 1950-76. The pre- 1950 documentation is meager. These include copies of a 1934 lawsuit (land dispute) against Hiram Frakes, copies of deeds from as early as 1924, and miscellaneous information on students from the late 1940s and 1950s. Also, included is information on the Archer Center, a Methodist mission in Tennessee supported by Henderson Settlement in the 1950s. Also, the record contains information relating to the Red Bird Missionary Conference, which became the United Methodist Church administrative agency responsible for Henderson Settlement. The series is arranged alphabetically by format or subject. (See Red Bird Mission Collection, 1921-81 SAA 44, for the records of the Red Bird Missionary Conference form 1968-76—Hutchins Library, Berea College.)
