Interview Transcripts
Scope and Contents
The collection is comprised of sixteen audio recordings and unedited transcripts (of six of the interviews) with former Appalachian Volunteer workers who were assigned to West Virginia, between 1964 and 1967, and then settled in the area after their service ended.
These interviews were recorded by Marie Tyler McGraw during the summer of 1982 with the support of an Appalachian Studies Fellowship from the Berea College Appalachian Center. McGraw's article based on this research entitled "Staying On: Poverty Warriors in West Virginia After Fifteen Years" appears in the anthology, Reshaping the Image of Appalachia.
