Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The records in this collection document the history of radio broadcasting in Kentucky—in particular the delivery of radios and the expansion of radio service and radio programming to communities in Eastern Kentucky through the establishment of Listening Centers by the University of Kentucky, WHAS (Louisville), and other Kentucky radio stations. Records in the collection include unedited transcripts of interviews of individuals discussing the listening centers, the role of radio in the 1937 flood of the Ohio River, WHAS radio (Louisville) programs, and other topics. Also included in the collection are numerous photographs of performers and programming, print materials related to programs, radio promotional materials, news clippings, and correspondence regarding the listening centers and programming.
