Brownlee, Frederick L., 1948 - 1964
Scope and Contents
Brownlee, Frederick Leslie (1883-1962) was born in Ohio and educated at Ohio State University and at the Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He served churches in Ohio and New York and from 1920 to 1950 served as the general secretary of the American Missionary Association and a trustee of Fisk University. Brownlee recieved honorary doctorates from many instiutions and wrote many books and articles including "Heritage of Freedom" which porvides details of the AMA's relationship with Berea College.
Brownlee and his wife, Ruth Bright (1891-1967), moved to Berea in 1960. Both are buried in the Berea Cemetery.
