Home Ownership Study
Scope and Contents
Materials in this series consist of correspondence, meeting minutes, notes and documents spanning Shutt's years as a Berea College administrator. The bulk of the records cover the years 1920-1947. Of particular interest in this series are the documents concerning Berea's subjection to the Day Law, court proceedings concerning Berea's non-profit status, and Berea's shift of interest to serving economically disadvantaged Appalachians. The series also contains a small collection of unsigned letters and notes (Shutt often read such correspondence out loud in Chapel Services).
