Ellen Best was a 1930 graduate of Berea College (Home Economics) and attended Berea College's affiliated schools (the Academy and Training) beinginning in 1920. She married Wilson Arnold Evans (Berea College, Class of 1930). Their wedding on June 2, 1931, was performed by William J. Hutchins, President of Berea College, at Union Church. They had four children: William, Rose Mary, and Carl. Wilson Evans served as the college's Dean of Labor. Ellen's father was also a Berea graduate and served as College dentist for a time.
