Homer and Jethro
Scope and Contents
The photographs in this collection relate primarily to radio music performers of bluegrass or traditional Appalachian music and stations in the region that featured them. Many of the performers documented in the Berea College Appalachian Sound Archives are subjects of the photographs in this collection. Most of the photographs are publicity photos; some are autographed.
Notable subjects include: Roy Acuff, the Briar Hoppers, Lester Flatt, Red Foley, Doc Hopkins, Homer Ledford, Bill Monroe, Dolly Parton (as a teenager), Jean Ritchie, Tex Ritter, and the Swanee River Boys. Radio station publicity shots include WHAS in Louisville, WIBC of Indianapolis, WKIC of Hazard, and WWVA of Wheeling, WV. Anomalies in the collection include a 1903 photo of the wreck of Engine 97 and a photograph of several Kentucky governors. A few folders include copies of songs associated with the performer.
