Scope and Contents
This series contains information about Dr. Ancil Gatliff, his family, notes made by Chester Young, Interviews, and newspapers clippings about Gatliff and his family.
Gatliff's personal folder contains several note cards typed by Young with information about Gatliff's personality and a few short stories about him. It contains a blank card for record of employment at Gatliff Coal Company, a program of "A Great Quartette" in memory of Dr. Ancil Gatliff, and information about Gatliff's life and all his accomplishments as a doctor, in the church, as a business man, and as a friend. There is an article about Gatliff from the Western Recorder, October 29, 1918, in-depth notes made by Young on the genealogy of Ancil Gatliff and his descendants, and general information about Gatliff from a Cumberland College text dated between 1918 and 1919. There is also a notebook of Young's containing notes on Gatliff.
Other folders contains names of people who were prospective interviewees, and interviews given by Young with Raymond Sutton, Jr. at the Gatliff home, Everett Disel Buhl, Perry Smith, and James M. Broswell. All these interviews were about Ancil Gatliff and the Gatliff home.
The next folder contains information about a fountain on 5th Street in Williamsburg that was dedicated in memory of Ancil Gatliff on May 26, 1925. There are a number of articles about the Gatliff House, Gatliff's parents, and other articles containing information about the Williamsburg area.
Remaining folders contain information about Gatliff's family. There is a program for an organ recital in memory of Pearl Gatliff Perkins. There are articles and memos about the death of Una Gatliff Mahan, one daughter of Ancil Gatliff, a picture of Mrs. A. Gatliff, and a note by Ruby Gatliff Archer. There are also a check register, register of deposits, and a register of receipts of Joseph Gatliff's Estate.
