Scope and Contents

This series contains information about the Berea area and its inhabitants. Included in the series is correspondence concerning the 7th Kentucky Infantry in the Battle of Big Hill; papers and letters of the Elder family, 1810-1907; a transcript of correspondence between President Frost and Cash Rawlings discussing local history and folklore in the 1890s; and a transcript of biographical sketch of Samuel E. Welch (b.1861), a prominent Berea citizen, builder of Welch's Department Stores and first President of Berea National Bank; minutes of Silver Creek-Scaffold Cane Baptist Church, 1802-1859; materials of the Kirksville Christian Church
