This collection includes numerous iterations of the Berea College Articles of Incorporation, Constitution, and Bylaws, records regarding the founding of the school and the exile of its founders and supporters during the Civil War, an 1867 Freedman's Bureau Report, records regarding the origin and principles of the Berea Literacy Institution, printed ciruculars and handbills, meeting notes of the first trustee meetings, early class lists, and a list of the Berea anti-slavery families exiled during the Civil War,
