Abstract
The National Conference of Church-Related Colleges was created in 1934 out of resolutions adopted by College Department of the Council of Church Boards of Education and the Liberal Arts College Movement. The goal of forming the Conference was to create a more effective agency to directly serve the causes and needs of church-related colleges.

Abstract
During the advent of World War II, the U.S. Navy turned to liberal arts colleges to provide a basic education for their recruits. Between July 1, 1943, and June 30, 1946, more than 125,000 individuals were enrolled in the V-12 Navy College Training Program which was offered in 131 colleges and universities throughout the United States. Abstract
Mary Lou Thomson Treese was a 1944 graduate of Berea College. She was the daughter of Edith Ellis Thomson and Dr. A. Eugene Thomson who both attended Berea and whose father's both taught at Berea. Dr. A. Eugene Thomson served as the first President of Lincoln Institute of Kentucky.

Official records of the Berea College Normal School, 1894 - 1931. The Certification Law of 1930, requiring teachers to have four years of collegiate training, effectively dismantled the Normal School (which had already been altered in keeping with other state and federal requirements).

Norman Ball Papers

Abstract
Born in McCreary County, KY, Norman Ball graduated from the Berea College Academy in 1933 and from Berea College in 1939. He enlisted in September 1942 and eventually served in North Africa, Italy, and France. At the time of his enlistment, he was the fifth member of his family to join the service. Ball received an honorable discharge in October 1945.
