Abstract Olivia Phelps Stokes gifted to the College ten chimes (Meneely Bells) in honor of President William Goodell Frost’s 25th year at Berea College. Abstract Clara Chassell Cooper (1893–1993), an author of several books and psychologist, served as Head of the Berea College Department of Psychology from 1951 to 1961. Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure

Abstract

The Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure, working with the Berea College Chapter of the American Association of University Professors, first formulated a statement on academic freedom and tenure for the College in 1965.  In April 1968, the Recommended Statement on Academic Freedom was approved by the College Faculty and adopted by the Board of Trustees. The committee continued to make recommendations on overall policy to be referred to the College Faculty for action.
