Abstract Noah C. Hirschy (1867-1925) was asked to join the faculty of Berea College as Associate Professor of Modern Languages and Science in 1920 (same year Dr. William J. Hutchins was appointed President of the College -- Hutchins and Hirschy had been seminary students together at Oberlin). Pat Wear Papers

Abstract

Pat Wear taught at Berea College from 1950 until he retired in 1980.  Dr. Wear ("Pat") served as chairman of the college's education department and was a professor of elementary education and director of secondary student teaching. He continued to teach part-time after he retired.  In addition to his academic work, Wear was an avid tennis player and was a leading supporter and influence for tennis in Berea and the state of Kentucky.

Abstract Paul David Nelson (Dave) came from Patrick County, Virginia to attend Berea College, graduating in 1965. He went on to Duke University for a master’s degree and then a Ph.D. After a brief stint at Villanova University, he returned to Berea to teach in 1970, becoming Julian-Van Dusen professor in 1993. Richard Bryant Drake came to Berea College in 1957 after receiving his master’s degree from the University of Chicago and his doctoral degree from Emory University. During his tenure at Berea, Drake served as a professor of history and as the chairperson of the History and Political Science Department.
