Academic Program Council (APC)

Academy School

Abstract

Created as an affiliated school of Berea College, the Academy served as a Senior High School. In 1938, reorganization abolishes the Academy by adding the ninth and tenth grades to the Foundation School, thus creating the Lower Division (Grades 11-12, College Freshman and Sophomore years) and Upper Division (College Junior and Senior years) to the College.

Ada May Dinkleman Scrapbook

Abstract

Ada M. Dinkleman was born on May 22, 1881, in Madisonville (Hamilton County), Ohio.  She graduated from Denison in Ohio and taught at Berea from approximately 1908-1911.  in 1912, Dinkleman married Emil Bracker, who had served as the acting superintendent of the College gardens and forests during the same time that Dinkleman was faculty at Berea.  Dinkleman died in January, 1984 in Illinois.

Ada Simpson Sherwood Papers

Abstract Ada Simpson was born on January 25, 1861 in Carlton, New York but spent most of her early life in rural Michigan.  At the age of sixteen, she obtained a teacher’s certificate and became a rural school teacher while at the same time working toward the high school diploma. She married Alva Sherwood in 1888. Administrative Committee

Abstract

The Administrative Committee is responsible to the Board of Trustees and the President of the College for matters of finance, physical properties and internal management of the College. Members of the committee oversee all instructional and operating departments of the institution. The very first meeting of the Administrative Committee took place on October 5, 1937 under President Francis S. Hutchins.
